Belonging Matters: LGBTQ+ Students in HE In-Person

Presenter: Dr Lindsey Gaston, Senior Lecturer, Liverpool Business School, with the Teaching and Learning Academy

It has been documented that LGBTQ+ students are at a particular high risk of dropping out before completing their degree. Apart from general student issues, the queer student faces an additional and unique set of worries, concerns and stressors.  Yet, there has been very little work on the LGBTQ+ student experience in Higher Education. Drawing on my own research interests, I would like to start a conversation with colleagues across the institution about how LJMU values queer students and how LGBTQ+ students are made to feel they ‘matter’ in LJMU.
