This session is part of the LJMU LEAD Programme – Leadership Enhancement and Development but is for all staff who are to take part in any recruitment and selection of staff at LJMU.

We recognise that our employees are our greatest asset and ensuring that our recruiting managers follow the university's recruitment and selection policy is essential in attracting and retaining the right staff.  Getting it wrong can have a lasting impact on the business and the individual leading to problems with staff morale and absence.

This session is aimed at taking recruiters through the recruitment and selection process including:

  • How to use the hiring manager self-service portal (Hireserve) from advertising through to offer
  • Producing a job description and person specification
  • Advertising the position
  • Carrying out a fair selection process at both shortlist and interview, gathering accurate information, interpreting information, and making decisions
  • Equal opportunities, dealing with subjectivity, diversity and good practice
  • Interviewing skills including preparing questions, questioning techniques and structuring the interview
