LJMU’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Team, are proud to be working in partnership with coaching and training specialists; Result CIC (Community Interest Company) and are pleased to offer LJMU Managers, Programme Leaders and Personal Tutors (those with direct responsibility for safeguarding staff/students) the opportunity to participate in a half day Training for Managers of Staff with Disabilities & Long-Term Health Conditions Including Mental Health, workshop.

The aim of the programme is to offer LJMU Managers and Programme Leaders/Personal Tutors further support and guidance, in relation to; operating more confidently and effectively, whilst developing themselves and their staff/students positively.

The Aim Of The Training Session Is To Help Participants:

  • Understand the social model of disability which underpins UK rights legislation and what this means for them as managers of disabled staff and as people who have, or who may acquire disabilities themselves.
  • Learn how to develop personal confidence in understanding and discussing disability and long-term health conditions using a coaching style of management in 1:1 and team contexts.
  • Develop greater confidence generally around the topic of disability and its impact, including its positive impact on individuals and teams.

 

 

Who can attend?

This training opportunity is open to LJMU Managers, Programme Leaders and Personal Tutors (those with direct responsibility for safeguarding staff/students).

Places are limited and will be issued on a first-come-first-served basis.

 

 

WORKSHOP CONTENT:

  • Introduction & Awareness-Raising Interactive Exercise
  • Real-Life Case Studies: What is it like to acquire a disability when you are of working age? What have managers done right and wrong and what is the impact?
  • Interactive Exercises (Using management coaching styles)
  • Action Planning
  • Reflection, Summary & Feedback

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:

This training programme is open to LJMU Managers, Programme Leaders & Personal Tutors that either live with physical disabilities and long-term illnesses including mental health conditions themselves or have team members/students that do and wish to learn more about how to best support them.

The training will explore the unique challenges and experiences of disabled colleagues/students from across the institution and how those experiences can assist to; develop resilience to thrive at work, to advance as positive role models for others and to set and achieve personal and professional goals.

This year’s programmes will be delivered in partnership with Result CIC Directors; Jane Cordell and Hormoz Ahmadzadeh.
