Managing Difficult Situations

Managing Difficult Situations In-Person

This session is part of the LJMU Leadership and Development Programme and is for staff with Line Management responsibility only.

Difficult situations will sometimes arise in the workplace that must be dealt with cautiously and with sensitivity. These include discipline or grievance issues, attendance levels and improper conduct and performance issues.

We know from experience that many of our managers find this a challenging part of their role, this workshop aims to provide managers with tools and techniques to better equip them to deal with difficult situations, to recognise early signs, to deal with problems as they arise and to develop, build and maintain personal resilience.

Participants will also develop a knowledge of associated University policies and processes (for example mediation and performance management) and build confidence in preparing for difficult conversations, managing and controlling the workplace discussion process and ensure they are talking to employees in as productive a way as possible.
