Making open education FAIR: principles, practice and the National Teaching Repository

Making open education FAIR: principles, practice and the National Teaching Repository Online

Digital technologies are allowing for educational resources to be more open than ever before. This allows users to discover the material and learn from it, and educators are able to gain greater recognition for their work and demonstrate their contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning. As open educational resources (OERs) are being shared in research data repositories, they can also benefit from the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).

A teaching slide deck for example, can be freely read and understood by others, integrated with other resources into a database thanks to standardised metadata, and re-used or built upon through a Creative Commons licence. In this talk we consider the National Teaching Repository, a digital space where educators can upload teaching resources, pedagogical research and more, helping them gain recognition, be acknowledged for and be able to show evidence of the impact of their work in practice.
