Open Research and Reproducibility

Open Research and Reproducibility Online

*This event has changed slightly.  Unfortunately, Professor Marcus Munafò is unable to make this session.

We will now be joined by Professor Emily Farran, from the University of Surrey.  Emily Farran is Professor of Cognitive Development and Academic Lead Research Culture and Integrity, University of Surrey. In November 2019, the University of Surrey was one of the first Universities to join the UK Reproducibility Network at an institutional level. The (now 18) institutions that have joined the UKRN work collaboratively to coordinate training and share best practice to improve the transparency and quality of research in the UK, and have recently received funding from Research England to accelerate the uptake of open research practices across the sector.

Open research ensures transparency across the research lifecycle, promoting rigour, reproducibility, and public trust in research. The benefits of open research practices for improving the quality and integrity of research have been widely documented, and the UK Government R&D Roadmap recognizes that open research contributes to a positive research culture. Professor Marcus Munafò (Chair of the Steering Group of the UK Reproducibility Network; UKRN) and Andy Jones (UoL UKRN Local Network Lead) will be talking about Open Research and how adopting Open Research practices can help address reproducibility issues.

Marcus Munafò is Professor of Biological Psychology in the School of Psychological Science and MRC Investigator in the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit. He has a long-standing interest in the factors that contribute to research quality, and chairs the University of Bristol’s Research Improvement Group. He was recently appointed Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Culture. In 2019 he co-founded the UK Reproducibility Network, which recently received funding from Research England to accelerate the uptake of open research practices across the sector.

Open Research Week is supported by the Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF) awarded by The Wellcome Trust to the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of Liverpool
