The Nia Programme - Career Development for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Staff - Workshop 3 (Virtual) 

Session 3 of 3. Please note that staff will need to attend all 3 sessions.

Liverpool John Moores University is launching The Nia Programme - the University’s first ever career development programme for our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff. Adopting the Swahili name ‘Nia’ which translates to ‘purpose’, the programme which will be delivered by The King’s Fund, intends to enhance and consolidate our staff’s skills and strengths with a clear understanding of how these are transferrable and desirable in this current changing job economy; whilst simultaneously supporting staff to create an inspiring and motivating career vision and map allowing staff to bring their ‘whole self’ to work. Staff registered on the virtual three-day programme will also receive individual 1:1 personal coaching sessions.

By the end of this personal development programme staff will amongst other things:

  • Understand the skills and qualities that aren’t taught in school – influence and the power of personal impact that make you stand out in a crowded marketplace.
  • Learn why in-house ‘Brand You’ matters more than ever in accelerating and progressing your future career.
  • Understand how to successfully access and leverage the hidden job market through intentional networking and contacts.
  • Develop a clear understanding of the difference between career achievement and career success.

Moni Akinsanya, EDI Manager said: “This ‘Nia’ Programme will provide a supportive space to debate/discuss your unique experience as ethnically diverse staff, reflect on your current role and engage proper self-reflection on how you can make the most of your unique difference to achieve excellence in your chosen career path. I expect minority staff to be released to undertake this very important training.”

 

This workshop is for both academic and professional services staff.

About the facilitators and The King's Fund

Jackee works in the NHS, health and social care sectors, in finance and education and in the cultural arts sectors. She works with directors, senior leaders, board level executives and emerging leaders. She supports leaders who are committed to investing in ongoing personal and professional development to improve overall performance and generate results and outcomes that maximize impact in a fast-changing environment. Jackee is also an accredited coach, counsellor and coach supervisor. Jackee works as a coach, coach supervisor and facilitator on leadership and development programmes.

Mark works in the leadership and organisational development team. Before joining The King’s Fund, Mark held a number of senior strategic roles within the NHS, UK civil service and local government. He has postgraduate qualifications in executive coaching and group action learning, a Masters in leadership and is an experienced executive coach. He is a qualified British Psychological Society occupational testing practitioner and is accredited to use a wide variety of psychometrics tools. Mark is a facilitator, educator and coach with experience in supporting strategic change, service improvement, leadership, and wider organisational development interventions. He is particularly interested in supporting teams and leaders that are operating within complex systems.

 

The King’s Fund is an independent charity helping to shape policy and practice through research and analysis; developing individuals, teams and organisations; promoting understanding; and bringing people together to learn, share knowledge and debate. The charity was initially formed in 1897 as an initiative to collect and distribute funds to support the voluntary hospitals of London in response to the growing demand for healthcare. However, The King’s Fund continues to evolve and expand, operating as a centre for developing ideas, sharing skills and knowledge.
