CPMH Hybrid Seminar: 'The other Liverpool Welsh: A rough history’ by Mike Benbough-Jackson In-Person / Online
The Welsh on Merseyside have a peculiar image problem: they are too respectable. Academic and popular histories focus on chapels, their ministers, eisteddfods, St David’s Day, some more chapels and the occasional church. There is nothing wrong with this, indeed some of Mike’s work falls into this category. Yet other, less respectable Welsh were around during the early nineteenth century and probably later as well. This talk will justify the topic, reflect on the methods used and consider the source material. Moreover, a special guest, ‘Old Owen Roberts’, will take the stage, though not in person because he was 87 in 1825.
