Gypsy Roma Traveller Showman and Boater (GRTSB) Culture and Awareness Training 

LJMU are proud to be working in partnership with Dr Richard O'Neill and is pleased to offer LJMU/JMSU Staff the opportunity to participate in a 1.5-hour Gypsy Roma Traveller Showman and Boater (GRTSB) Awareness Training.

This opportunity is FREE and open to LJMU/JMSU staff. Places are limited, and they can be booked using the registration link provided. The session will be held on Teams. 

 

Objectives 

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to: 

  1. Cultural Competency: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the cultural nuances and issues affecting Gypsy Roma Traveller students. 

  1. Effective Strategies: Identify and implement strategies that enhance communication and working relationships with GRTSB students. 

  1. Confidence Building: Exhibit increased confidence in engaging and supporting students from GRTSB backgrounds. 

 

About Richard 

Dr Richard O'Neill is an acclaimed and accomplished creative professional based in the North of England. He has succeeded as a storyteller, author, playwright, animation scriptwriter, lecturer and workshop leader. He conducts storytelling skills and social enterprise for inclusion training sessions across Europe, engaging with various institutions such as schools, universities, leading museums, and cultural spaces.

Richard was born into a traditional nomadic Romani family and raised in various locations across the North, which deeply influences his work and inspires him to leverage the power of storytelling in various formats to promote inclusion and acceptance. 

He creates a comfortable and friendly training environment where thoughts, ideas, and feelings can be freely expressed. Delegates are encouraged to ask any questions about Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller cultures and his work, both past and present.
