White, male and first-in-family: understanding barriers to academic achievement
This seminar seeks to increase understanding and challenge current thinking about the experience of white males who are first in family to go to university. Based on outcomes of a research project supported by the LJMU Diversity and Inclusion Fund, the seminar will share insights from the voices of students themselves, as well as interviews with staff and student support services.
It will discuss some interventions that the University is considering as part of the Access and Participation Plan implementation, and their relevance to the access, attainment and continuation of this group of students. The session will conclude with a discussion on how the potential of white male students could be enhanced by teaching staff, personal tutors and colleagues from professional services.
This event will be held in SLB Room 303.
Hosted by the Teaching and Learning Academy, this event is part of the Teaching Insights series and will be led by
